Hey, I’m Carmen!
A trail runner, hiker, birder, cake loving, natural light seeking creative! I love reading a good story, listening to one or helping weave one together, and that’s what connect’s all my work. I’m a storyteller who’s in love with wild spaces and enthralled by the human experience.
I find myself drawn to project’s that have a lot of heart and room to do something different.
A big chunk of my work over the last 5 years has been driven by my curiosity and a desire to document the world around me.
To listen, to absorb and then to piece together a film, photo series or experience that takes people on a journey.
From outdoor spaces and the incredible people dedicated to protecting them to exhilarating adventures and epic pursuits that spotlight what we as humans are capable of. Work that has the potential to challenge perceptions and amplify key voices.
Over the year’s I’ve found my work weighted in editing and have developed a deep passion for long form. There is nothing quite like sitting with the mass of an untold story and helping to mould it through nuance. I shoot in between long stretches in the edit cave and would love to grow my cinematography portfolio in the years to come.
My career has been a wild wonderful ride, and my experience across various industries has given me the ability to perceive a project brief from multiple angles.
In 2020, driven by a desire to get more womxn outdoors, I decided to Co-found a women’s outdoor adventure experiences company called Womxn for Wild.
And in 2022, I joined the Cape Town Adventure Film Festival as the Assistant Festival Director, with the goal of giving South Africa a strong platform for filmmakers, photographers and adventurers to showcase their work.
