Curiously navigating the visual world.
Hey, I’m Carmen,
When i’m not off somewhere filming, shooting stills or in the edit cave, I’m an avid trail runner, hiker and birder. I love cake, natural light and time to sit on my stoep and stare at the clouds rolling by. I’m a storyteller who’s in love with wild spaces and enthralled by the human experience.
My work is guided by the belief that it is through exploring and experiencing a place, that people develop a deeper understanding of it. Where there is understanding, there can be empathy and passion. And from that, a desire to protect and conserve.
I’m personally driven by my curiosity and a desire to document the world around me. To listen, to absorb and then to piece together a film, photo series or experience that takes people on a journey.
From outdoor spaces and the incredible people dedicated to protecting them to exhilarating adventures and epic pursuits that spotlight what we as humans are capable of. Work that has the potential to challenge perceptions and amplify key voices.
Over the year’s I’ve my work has been weighted in editing and I’ve have developed a deep passion for long form media. There is nothing quite like sitting with the mass of an untold story and helping to mould it, finding nuance and developing characters. I shoot in between long stretches in the edit cave and would love to grow my cinematography portfolio in the years to come.
My career has been a wild wonderful ride, and my experience across various industries has given me the ability to perceive a project brief from multiple angles.
In 2020, driven by a desire to get more women outdoors, I Co-founded a women’s outdoor adventure experiences company called Womxn for Wild.
And in 2022, I joined the Cape Town Adventure Film Festival as the Assistant Festival Director, with the goal of giving South Africa a strong platform for filmmakers, photographers and adventurers to showcase their work.
